I've thought from time to time we should have a real podcast, with people actually saying stuff about the songs, snippets of stuff in progress, things like that. Something would could actually list on the iTunes podcast section. Of course, the problem with that would be coordinating people for interviews and verifying who wants which rough drafts distributed to the world.

And then it occurred to me that maybe we could do this the Interrobang Cartel way: distribute it! People could record commentary about specific songs, either how they wrote/arranged them, or what they thought about someone else's songs. As soon as enough material for a 30-minut podcast is available, it could be edited together and distributed.

We could even have podcast fighting.

I'm in. But what the hell is "podcast fighting"?

I forget who, but someone described what we do as "songfighting". Someone comes up with an idea, someone else tries to turn it into a full song, but maybe someone else is turning it into a song, too... and yet another person is trying to top that first idea. So we wind up with not just multiple arrangements (example: Kiss Me, Cruel Fortran, Schroedinger's Car,) but also multiple melodies (examples: Rewind, The Robot Song,) and even multiple lyrics (examples: Hedgehog Houses, Zebra Races.) Although maybe it's not so much fighting as it is playing off each other's ideas.

So podcast fighting is kind of the same idea. We each contribute commentary of various types. Each person that wants to do something with that commentary can edit together a 20-to-30-minute podcast episode. Someone else could try an entirely different approach at editing the commentary into a podcast.

Quick Google search:

I like the idea of getting more podcasts out there to attract attention to the Cartel. So now, there are two ways to participate: as content provider or as editor/producer. Another angle might be to remix or mash-up previous IBC content. A special case would be to create "trailers" for albums.
